IPL 2024: Predicting Top 3 Run-Scorers This Season

The IPL 2024 season will be the 17th edition of the biggest T20 league in the world. The IPL 2024 tournament will get underway on March 22 at Chepauk, with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings hosting the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

In this article, we will discuss about the Orange Cap. The Orange Cap in IPL is awarded to the top scorer of the season.

Talking about the Orange Cap IPL winners, last season Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill won the Orange Cap after scoring 890 runs. This was the second-highest runs scored in a season by a batsman who ended up with the Orange Cap, after Virat Kohli’s legendary 973 runs in 2016. Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler scored 863 runs in 2022 IPL.

IPL 2024: Predicting Top 3 Run-Scorers This Season

Virat Kohli

Who is a better candidate to predict for ending up with the Orange Cap than Virat Kohli? The RCB batsman is the all-time leading IPL run-scorer with 7263 runs. He is the only player in IPL history to have played all 16 seasons for a single franchise. However, he has not won the title even once.

Virat Kohli

With Virat Kohli being 35-year-old, there aren’t a lot of IPL seasons left in him. By the time the IPL starts, he will have been on a break for a month to be with his newborn son and his wife. He will come mentally refreshed in the IPL 2024, and could end up not only with the Orange Cap, but, if the stars align perfectly, with the IPL trophy as well. It goes with saying that for RCB to lift the trophy, their greatest batsman will have to once again carry them with a sheer load of runs.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Gaikwad

With Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal cementing their places in the Indian Test team, and both also competing for a spot in the T20I team, Ruturaj Gaikwad has gone under the radar a little over the past few months. But with the T20 World Cup scheduled for June, right after the IPL 2024 concludes, the IPL provides the perfect platform for Gaikwad to make a strong case to the selectors.

Gaikwad was the Orange Cap winner in 2021, when his 635 runs helped CSK lift the title. He also had a bumper last season, where he amassed 590 runs and once again CSK won the title.

Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler is hailed as arguably the best T20 opener in the world. Buttler’s best ability as a T20 batsman is how quickly he can shift gears within a space of few balls, and how he is astute in deciding his targets in the opposition bowling attack.

An all-time great Rajasthan Royals opener, Jos Buttler won the Orange Cap in IPL 2022, amassing 863 runs, and helping RR finish as the runner-up.
