IPL 2025: 2 PBKS Players Who Might Not Play A Single Match

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a stage where cricketing dreams are either realized or deferred, and for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2025, the squad boasts a blend of seasoned players and promising talents. However, not every player gets the opportunity to showcase their skills, and for Vishnu Vinod and Xavier Bartlett, this season might be one of watching from the sidelines.

Vishnu Vinod –

Vishnu Vinod, with his brief IPL stints in 2017 with RCB and 2023 with MI, has shown glimpses of his wicket-keeping and batting prowess. His stats, however, tell a story of potential not fully realized. With an average of 12.33 in IPL 2023 and a highest score of 30, Vinod’s performances haven’t been substantial enough to secure a regular spot. For PBKS, where the competition for the wicket-keeper slot is fierce, especially with players like Josh Inglis in the mix, Vinod might find himself as a backup rather than a starter. His role could be limited to injury cover or specific match situations where his skills might be deemed advantageous, but the regular playing XI might not include him, given the depth in PBKS’s batting and keeping options.

Xavier Bartlett –

Xavier Bartlett, an overseas bowling option, faces an even steeper challenge. With the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, and international stars like Lockie Ferguson in the squad, Bartlett’s chances of playing are slim. His lack of IPL exposure compared to others in the lineup, coupled with the strategic preferences of PBKS’s management for proven performers or players with specific match-ups in mind, might relegate Bartlett to the reserves. His role could be more about learning from the sidelines, observing how top-tier T20 cricket operates, rather than actively participating in matches.

Punjab Kings, under the stewardship of Ricky Ponting, have aimed for a blend of experience and youth, with a focus on players who can deliver under pressure. This strategy often means that players with proven IPL records or those who offer versatility get priority. For Vinod and Bartlett, their niche skills might not be immediately required in the starting lineup, especially when the team is stacked with all-rounders like Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, and bowlers like Harpreet Brar who can contribute with both bat and ball.

For both Vinod and Bartlett, IPL 2025 might serve as a learning curve rather than a platform for performance. Being part of a team like PBKS, known for its nurturing environment, could be beneficial in the long run. Their presence in the squad speaks to their potential, but the reality of IPL’s competitive nature means not everyone gets to play. This season could be about adapting, learning from the best, and waiting for their moment, which might come in future seasons or in different leagues where they could be more central to the team’s strategy.

As IPL 2025 unfolds, the stories of Vishnu Vinod and Xavier Bartlett with PBKS might not be about match-winning performances but about resilience, learning, and perhaps, waiting for their time to shine. In the high-stakes world of IPL, where every match counts, their journey serves as a reminder of the depth and competition within cricket squads, where even talented players might find themselves on the bench, watching and learning, ready for when their opportunity arrives.
