IPL 2025: 2 Former CSK Players Who Can Replace Nitish Kumar Reddy In SRH

IPL 2025

As the IPL 2025 season approaches, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) face an unexpected challenge with their young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy sidelined due to an injury.

Reddy, who emerged as a significant asset for SRH during the 2024 IPL, scoring 303 runs at an impressive strike rate of 142.92, has been sent to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for recovery.

His injury, expected to take at least four weeks to heal, puts SRH in a position where they must consider replacements.

Here, we discuss two former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) players who could potentially fill the void left by Reddy: Shardul Thakur and Daryl Mitchell.

Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur, once the toast of the IPL, has had a rollercoaster journey in the league. Known for his ability to perform under pressure, Thakur has proven his worth both with the bat and ball.

Initially, he was a part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), commanding a hefty price of 10.75 Crore in the auctions for 2022 and 2023.

Last season, he donned the yellow of CSK at a slightly lower but still significant 4 Crore.

However, the IPL 2025 mega auction saw him go unsold, which was quite a surprise given his track record.

Thakur’s recent performances in domestic cricket, like scoring a superb century in the Ranji Trophy under pressure, underline his class and resilience.

His medium-pace bowling, which has garnered him 94 wickets in the IPL, combined with his capability to deliver with the bat, especially in crucial situations, makes him a multi-dimensional player.

Although Thakur is more of a bowling all-rounder compared to Reddy’s batting prowess, his experience and knack for coming through in clutch moments could be invaluable for SRH.

His T20I performances for India further cement his reputation as a player who can affect games in multiple ways.

Bringing Thakur into the SRH fold could provide the team with a seasoned campaigner who knows how to adapt to different phases of the game.

His presence could not only strengthen the bowling lineup but also add depth to the batting order, making him a strategic choice to replace Reddy.

Daryl Mitchell

On the international front, SRH has an opportunity to leverage their remaining overseas slot with Daryl Mitchell, another former CSK player.

Mitchell had a notable stint with CSK in the last season, scoring 318 runs across 13 innings with a strike rate of 142.60, showcasing his ability to both anchor innings and accelerate when needed.

His all-round capabilities make him a like-for-like replacement for Nitish Reddy.

Mitchell’s overall T20 record is impressive, with 4742 runs and 78 wickets, indicating a player who can contribute significantly with both bat and ball.

His experience playing in different conditions around the world could be key for SRH, especially in the batting lineup where he can slot anywhere from the top four to the middle order.

His bowling, while not his primary skill, adds another dimension, similar to how Reddy has been used by SRH.

The inclusion of Mitchell in the SRH squad would not only bolster their batting with a reliable overseas player but also maintain the balance in their all-round department.

His calm demeanor under pressure, coupled with his technical prowess against both pace and spin, could prove to be a tactical advantage in the IPL’s high-stakes environment.

In Summary

Nitish Kumar Reddy’s injury is a blow to SRH’s plans, but it also opens up opportunities to explore other talents.

Both Shardul Thakur and Daryl Mitchell bring their own flavor to the table – Thakur with his experience and clutch performances, and Mitchell with his international pedigree and all-round capabilities.

Either player could seamlessly fit into SRH’s strategy, providing not just a replacement but potentially enhancing the team’s performance in IPL 2025.

As SRH looks to maintain their competitive edge from last season, where they were runners-up, the choice between these two former CSK stars will be intriguing.

Their addition could be the key to navigating through the injury crisis and keeping the team’s momentum going strong.
