IPL7: Delhi Daredevils lack versatility

Delhi Daredevils are coming into this IPL with a completely different look altogether. They decided to build a new team and it all started with the elimination of Sehwag. But, they bought quite a number of Indians who have performed reasonably well in the past IPL seasons but still the team lacks big names of Indian cricket. With Sehwag no more in the team, Daredevils has managed to lose quite a number of fans and the way they performed in their first match won’t help their cause either.

But what matters along with the quality is the variety in the team. They have too many players of the same kind . Generally a team buys foreign players based on what they lack in their Indian resources. But this is were Daredevils missed the trick. They are just not  getting the combination right.

Some of them are:

1: There was no point in buying Quinton deKock , with 2 specialist wicket keepers already in the squad. Even Kedar Jadhav is not getting a game after being bought for a handsome price.

2:Jimmy Neesham and Laxmi Ratan Shukla are almost similar kind of players. With the form Shukla was in this domestic season, it was sensible to give Shukla a chance and bring in another foreigner as a front line bowler in place of Neesham. Shukla , with his experience in such condition will definetely be more effective.

3: Mayank Agarwal did finish the innings well for RCB last year, but he getting the knod against the in form Saurabh Tiwari is unexplainable. Tiwari was a sensation in this year’s Ranji season finishing with the highest number of sixes in the tournament. His double century against Mumbai was one of the highlights of the season.

4: Rahul Sharma has struggled against left handers , but has kept it tight to right handers. Even Shahbaz Nadeem , being a conventional left armer won’t enjoy bowling to left handers. The problem arises when a left hander is on fire and captain has to get overs from these 2. A trailor of it happened during their last match when Yuvraj was going all guns blazing.

5: They miss someone who can be match winners with the ball. They do have some good ones like Parnell but they lack someone like Malinga or Johnson who can create a sort of fear in the opposition dug out.
