Chris Gayle is one of the most destructive batsmen in world cricket, specially when it comes to playing T20 cricket. Gayle, who plays for various T20 franchises across the world, is one of the most “demanded” T20 cricketer in the world. But, it is said that Gayle is at his destructive best when it comes to the Indian Premier League (IPL). Here, we look at 8 records that prove Chris Gayle is the most destructive T20 batsman in the world.

1) First overseas player in the IPL to score 3000 runs

Chris Gayle is the only ‘overseas’ player in the history of IPL to score 3000 runs. Only two other players have scored 3,000 runs in IPL, Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina. Gayle is also the fastest batsman to reach 3000 runs in IPL.

2) Most number of T20 hundreds

Chris Gayle has scored 14 hundreds in T20 cricket. The next most century maker in T20 cricket is New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum, who has 6 hundreds to his name. So, Chris Gayle is 8 T20 hundreds of McCullum in the list of most number of hundreds in T20 cricket.

3) Most runs at a single venue by a batsman in T20 cricket

Chris Gayle has scored over 1500 runs at Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy stadium. Chinnaswamy stadium is the home ground for Chris Gayle’s IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Gayle has a special liking for this ground and he score truck-loads of runs at Chinnaswamy in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

4) Most runs off Mitchell Johnson in T20 cricket

In IPL 2015, Chris Gayle scored 20 runs in a single over of Mitchell Johnson. This happened in the match against Kings XI Punjab when Gayle score 20 runs in the first over of the match. This is the most by any batsman off  Mitchell Johnson in T20 cricket.

5) Most fifties against a particular opposition in T20 cricket

Chris Gayle’s blistering knock of 117 runs against Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2015, was his 7th fifty-plus score against Kings XI Punjab – the most fifties by any batsman against a particular opposition in all T20 cricket.

6) Chris Gayle’s hundred against Kings XI Punjab is the fastest hundred of IPL (so far)

Chris Gayle’s century in the match against Kings XI Punjab came off just 46 balls, the fastest ton of this season. Chris Gayle has single-handedly took away the match from KXIP and played one of the most memorable innings of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

7) 100 runs in boundaries

Chris Gayle smashed 12 sixes and seven fours in his knock against Kings XI Punjab. Gayle’s boundaries amounted to a total of 100 runs in boundaries.

8) What an amazing co-incidence!

Chris Gayle scored a hundred and left-arm pacer Sreenath Aravind took four wickets against KXIP only to repeat the feat exactly four years later.
