IPL 2022: Shubman Gill Is Getting Trolled Left, Right And Center On Twitter

Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill was heavily trolled after yet another failure – although this time it was a bad shot that brought his downfall – in the IPL 2022 after he had had a blockbuster start to this season.

Against Punjab Kings on Tuesday, after stroking a couple of classy boundaries, Shubman Gill got run out for 9 runs off 6 balls. He gently tapped Sandeep Sharma toward cover and ran for a quick single. But PBKS fielder Rishi Dhawan was in the best position to pick up the ball on the bounce, and despite virtually just one stump to aim at the non-striker’s end, Rishi hit the bull’s eye, catching Shubam Gill well short of the crease.

Gill seemed to be upset with Sandeep Sharma getting in his way as he had to run around the bowler. However, Sandeep hadn’t done anything wrong as he was in his follow through and didn’t change his line. Gill had to take the long walk back after what is his fifth single-digit score of the season in 10 innings.

His recent form in the past few games is in contrast to what it had been at the start of the season. Although he started off with a duck in the first match, Gill showed his class with two jaw-dropping knocks: 84 off 46 balls vs Delhi Capitals followed by 96 off 59 vs Punjab Kings and set himself up for a breakthrough IPL season that would put him in the reckoning for India’s white-ball teams.

However, that soon fizzled out as he registered scores of 7, 13, 0, and now 7. He got back into runs in the last couple of games but batted at a strike rate of below 120 in both – 22 off 24 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad and 31 off 28 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore. And now with just 9 runs, Gill’s season average, which once was in the forties, has now dipped to 26.

Fans have expected better consistency from Gill after those two breath-taking innings early in the season. Now, he was mercilessly trolled by netizens on Twitter.
