IPL Verdict: 5 Things You Need To Know About The Lodha Committee Verdict

IPL franchises Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were on Tuesday suspended from participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for two years, for the betting activities of their key officials Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra during the 2013 season. The Committee also imposed sanctions including life suspensions for Meiyappan and Kundra from being involved in any cricket matches conducted by BCCI.

The Cricket Lounge’s Vaibhav Sharma lists 5 key points from the IPL Verdict by Justice Lodha.

1)  IPL VERDICT: What will happen to the two franchises—the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) ?

A Supreme Court- appointed three-member committee headed by former CJI RM Lodha has banned both the franchise for two years. Both, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals can’t participate in the next two editions of the Indian Premier League.

No action was taken by India Cements against Meiyappan and hence the SC panel proposed to impose sanctions on India Cement’s franchise Chennai Super Kings by suspending it from the Indian Premeir League for two years.

Talking about the Rajasthan Royals, the committee said the Jaipur IPL team can’t shrink responsibility by saying Kundra acted in personal capacity.

2) IPL VERDICT: What will happen to the Indian Premier League?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will have to take this decision. The BCCI can choose to induct two more franchisees. Or it can also go ahead with a six-team league.

3) IPL VERDICT: What happens to the players?

A Supreme Court- appointed three-member committee headed by former CJI RM Lodh said that the players are free to play for other teams. This might mean another player auction.

4) IPL VERDICT: What will happen to N. Srinivasan?

N Srinivasan is not directly affected. He is still the elected president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) and also BCCI’s representative at the International Cricket Council. Srinivasan has also said that he has nothing to do with the Chennai Super Kings.

5) IPL VERDICT: What happens to Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra?

Both, Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra have been barred from any association with BCCI for five years and from cricket matches for life.
