IPL8: Ricky Ponting to start his new innings as Mumbai Indians’ head coach
Former Australian captain and one of the best batsmen ever, Ricky Ponting started his new innings today as the head of coach of the Mumbai Indians. With the eighth edition of the Indian Premier League )IPL8) scheduled to begin on April 8 2015, Mumbai Indias commenced their first training session of the season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Ricky Ponting, who also captained Mumbai Indians in the sixth season of the IPL , took up his new role here as the 2013 IPL champions underwent their first net session at their home venue.
The entire squad hasn’t assembled yet and some  are expected to join the short camp in a day or two ahead of Mumbai Indians’ opening game against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on April 8. The likes of Vinay Kumar, Abhimanyu Mithun, Parthiv Patel took part in the opening training session headed by Mumbai Indians’ new coach Ricky Ponting.

Mumbai India’s captain Rohit Sharma , who was a part of Team India’s World Cup 2015 squad, is expected to join the camp in a couple of days, according to a team source.

An internal practise game has been scheduled for April 4 by which time the entire squad would have assembled. Mumbai Indians will leave for Kolkata on April 5 for the opening match of IPL8 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai Indians’ squad for IPL8: 

Indian players: Rohit Sharma (c), Abhimanyu Mithun, Aditya Tare (wk), Ambati Rayudu, Harbhajan Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Parthiv Patel (wk), Pragyan Ojha, R Vinay Kumar, Akshay Wakhare, Hardik Pandya, Jagadeesha Suchith, Nitish Rana, Pawan Suyal, Siddhesh Lad, Shreyas Gopal, Unmukt Chand.
Foreign players: Aaron Finch (Australia), Aiden Blizzard, (Australia), Corey Anderson (New Zealand), Josh Hazlewood (Australia), Kieron Pollard (West Indies), Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka), Lendl Simmons (West Indies), Marchant de Lange (South Africa), Mitchell Mcclenaghan (New Zealand).
