The first day of the IPL mega auction was halted mid-way after a medical emergency occurred inside the main hall where the bidding for the mega-auction was going on. IPL auctioneer Hugh Edmeades fainted mid-event as he fell down from the stage. An early lunch was taken due to a medical emergency.
As per the reports, Edmeades is fine now. The incident took place when the franchises were bidding for Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga as the auctioneer suddenly fell down from the stage leaving everyone around him in shock. The live streaming of the auction was immediately stopped.
“He has been attended to by a doctor. He is doing fine, his blood pressure dropped suddenly and that was the reason for his sudden collapse. We will know more once he has a thorough check-up,” a BCCI source told news agency PTI.
Meanwhile, moments after the incident took place, social media got flooded with the reactions from the concerned fans. Several cricketers and experts also took to Twitter and expressed their concern regarding the health of Hugh Edmeades.
Among many, former IPL auctioneer Richard Madley also took to Twitter and expressed his emotions regarding the same. In his Tweet, Richard wrote how he was relieved after learning that Edmeades is fine now. He wrote:
“So relieved to hear that my friend Hugh has recovered quickly and will continue taking the #IPLMegaAuction2022″
