Former Indian fast bowler Irfan Pathan gave big compliments to Yashasvi Jaiswal, saying that the way he plays reminds him of former captain Sourav Ganguly. The current Test series between India and England is a memorable one for the 22-year-old Jaiswal.
In the matches held in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, Jaiswal showcased his immense talent and composure under pressure, contributing significantly to the Indian team’s success. His ability to convert his maiden Test century into a double-century in the subsequent match demonstrated not only his skill with the bat but also his mental strength and determination.
Irfan Pathan Compared Yashasvi Jaiswal To Sourav Ganguly
The cricket fraternity was abuzz with discussions about Jaiswal’s performances, with many drawing parallels between his playing style and that of legendary cricketers.
Yashasvi Jaiswal showed his attacking skills with a score of 80 in the first innings of the Hyderabad Test. He then displayed a good mix of aggressiveness and carefulness in his first-ever double-century during the first innings of the Visakhapatnam Test. As the third Test in Rajkot approaches, England will be keeping a close eye on Jaiswal, considering him a key player to watch out for.
Meanwhile, Irfan Pathan spoke at a public event aired on Star Sports, pointing out the similarity in Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sourav Ganguly’s batting skills on the off-side. The ex-fast bowler believes Yashasvi has what it takes to have a successful career with the national team, praising his inspiring journey from humble beginnings to success. Irfan said:
“There’s one player who I’m excited for, he is Yashasvi Jaiswal. Now, it has to be seen how he performs in IPL. What an exciting player he isâ€æ He possesses the off-side game, just like Dada (Sourav Ganguly). Just like we used to see him and say, ‘He’s the king of the off-side’,”
He added: “If he goes on to play for the next 10 years, we will speak about his game as much as we spoke about Dada’s. Jaiswal is that kind of a playerâ€æAnd now he has scored a double hundred in international hundred and he has a great background story,”
Yashasvi Jaiswal has become the preferred opener for the Indian Test team, giving them a valuable left-right batting combination at the start of their innings. With players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer absent, Yashasvi will have to take on the responsibility of scoring runs at the beginning of the innings in Rajkot.
