Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan expressed his views on the inclusion of Mumbai batsman Sarfaraz Khan in the playing XI for the upcoming second Test between India and England at the Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. Sarfaraz, who has long been overlooked, earned his place in the Test squad following KL Rahul’s injury.

While expressing joy for Khan’s inclusion, Pathan suggested that securing a spot in India’s playing XI might pose challenges for the player. The loss in the opening Test fueled discussions about potential lineup changes, with Sarfaraz Khan’s inclusion becoming a key point of attention.

Pathan highlights that while Sarfaraz Khan has rightfully earned a place in the Test squad, securing playing time might be challenging due to stiff competition. Rajat Patidar, another contender, has been part of the squad from the beginning and is likely to replace KL Rahul in the playing XI for the upcoming match in Vizag.

Speaking at an event, Pathan said: “First of all, congratulations to Sarfaraz Khan for getting into the team after a brilliant performance in domestic cricket. This is a small victory for each and every player who is playing domestic cricket and scoring runs. I was really happy as he was selected. However, it would be difficult for him to get into the playing XI as there are players like Rajat Patidar who have been waiting for a long time,”

Sarfaraz Khan, who showcased impressive performances in India A’s matches against England Lions, secured a spot in the Test squad. With notable scores in the tour matches and a remarkable Ranji Trophy record, Sarfaraz’s inclusion follows injuries to Rahul and Jadeja. Both sustained injuries during the first Test, leading to their departure from the squad.

Sarfaraz, along with Sourabh Kumar and Washington Sundar, was added to bolster the team. Jadeja suffered a hamstring injury, while Rahul experienced right quadriceps pain. Sarfaraz’s recent form and domestic success make him a promising addition to the squad.
