VIDEO: Ishan Kishan Reminded Fans Of MS Dhoni On His Test Debut

Young wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan got to make his Test debut in the first match of the 2-Test series against West Indies that got underway on Wednesday in Dominica.

On Day 1 itself, Kishan showed some good glovework on what was not an easy pitch to bat and keep on. As West Indies got bundled out for only 150 on Day 1 after electing to bat first, Ishan Kishan took a couple of really good, tough catches to show that he isn’t a novice with the gloves.

Ishan Kishan’s brilliant catches reminded fans of MS Dhoni

Ishan took two terrific catches on Day 1 which reminded fans of former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni who was outstanding behind the stumps, and continues to remain even at the age of 40. Mahendra Singh Dhoni would have been proud of watching Kishan take these two tough chances.

The first one was of Raymon Reifer, who edged Shardul Thakur to Kishan’s left. Kishan had to put in an athletic dive in front to complete the catch.

The second one was of Joshua Da Silva, who edged Ravindra Jadeja. The ball bounced a bit touch extra than what Joshua Da Silva anticipated on his way to a cut shot, and he edged it. The ball took a considerable deflection but Kishan managed to get his gloves in the line of the ball. He even fumbled one time but managed to cling on to the catch and there was plenty of ecstasy on the keeper’s face after completing a good take. This catch and the celebration was so Mahendra Singh Dhoni-esque.

India dominate Day 1 in its entirety

Kraigg Brathwaite won the toss and elected to bat first, but that toss was the only thing that went the hosts’ way, otherwise it all, throughout the day, that the visitors made moves and the hosts succumbed to it, now needing a miracle just after Day 1 to escape from a loss.

Back in the side after being dropped from the WTC Final, R Ashwin started the proceedings, knocking over young left-handed opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul before dismissing Brathwaite. Shardul Thakur got in the act and got rid of Raymon Reifer, edging to wicket-keeper Kishan. Jadeja struck on the last ball before Lunch and dismissed Jermaine Blackwood courtesy of a jaw-dropping catch from Siraj.

After Lunch, Jadeja had Joshua Da Silva. Then, debutant Alick Athanaze and Jason Holder tried to put up some fight with their partnership of 41 (108). Mohammed Siraj broke the stand and R Ashwin and Jadeja cleaned things up to bowl West Indies out for only 150.

There was no strong response from the WI bowlers as well. India openers, captain Rohit Sharma and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal, eased their way to stumps unscathed at 80/0, hitting 9 fours and a six combined in the process.
