“It’s Dangerous To Write Off Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma” – Joe Root

Virat Kohli

Indian captain Rohit Sharma and batting maestro Virat Kohli have been in some amazing form ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, which is all set to be played in India in the months of October and November. Both batters have been giving impressive performances in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. While Rohit has already smashed 3 consecutive half-centuries, on the other hand, Kohli smashed a tremendous century against Pakistan.

Joe Root Made A Big Statement About Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma

England’s batting maestro Joe Root opened up about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and claimed that it would be a mistake to write these two cricketing stalwarts going into the marquee tournament.

Speaking in an interview with the Times Of India, Joe Root hailed the Indian batters and said that as long as the duo is fit, they should be allowed to play in the Indian cricket team. He said:

“I think it’s very dangerous just to write off players like Virat and Rohit because of their age. Look at how long Chris Gayle, for example, played T20 cricket. Some of the best players in the world have gone longer, especially in T20 cricket, and have been wonderful with their performances. As long as you’re fit, you go on and play,”

Explaining his point further, Joe Root gave an example of England’s premier fast bowler James Anderson, and highlighted his age-defying excellence. He said:

“Jimmy Anderson is a perfect example you look at. He is over 40, he’s still performing exceptionally well. We’re very fortunate that we’ve not lost out on that because we think he’s too old. He’s still playing and he’s still leading our attack. And we’re using all that experience and skill to our advantage. We’re seeing him as a talent and ability and a wonderful player on his own.”

Meanwhile, riding on the amazing performances of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and other players, the Indian cricket team has booked their slot for the Asia Cup 2023 final clash. Before the final clash, India will meet Bangladesh to complete their Super 4 round.
