India succumbed to their first defeat against West Indies in ODIs since 2019, ending a 9-match winning streak in the format against this opposition when Shai Hope guided his side to a 6-wicket victory in the second ODI in Barbados on Saturday.

The 3-ODI series now moves into the decider on Tuesday in Trinidad, where West Indies will have an opportunity to win their first ODI bilateral series against India since 2006.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were rested from this match and Hardik Pandya captained the side as the Asian giants look to give fringe players like Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav more game time and exposure to the ODI format.

India were put in to bat first by Shai Hope. The two young openers, Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill, started off nicley, conjuring a 90-run opening stand. Ishan Kishan recorded his second consecutive half-century, more commendably as both of them have come on this tricky, spin-assisting, bounce-offering surface in Barbados.

However, after the first wicket fell, India collapsed shockingly, going from 90/0 to 181 all out. Motie and Shephers picked three wickets each while Josepth snapped two wickets.

In reply, West Indies too got off to a decent start with a 53-run opening stand between Mayers and King. Like, India, West Indies also suffered a -mini- collapse, with Shardul Thakur forcing the issue with three quick strikes. Kuldeep Yadav had the 4th West Indies wicket at the score of 91 and India were back in the contest.

However, skipper Shai Hope and youngster Keacy Carty were steady and kept their cool to take West Indies home and over the line in the run-chase.

India’s innings was scattered with two rain breaks. During one of the rain breaks, Ravindra Jadeja, who was padded as he was batting, was standing outside the Indian dressing room. Substitute Chahal, who has carried drinks in both matches, came to Jadeja and said something which brought out laughter from the all-rounder. Jadeja even stretched Chahal’s cheeks in a funny and cute manner.
