Jason Roy Ignored Virat Kohli And MS Dhoni In His All-Time XI

Jason Roy is one of the most destructive opening batsmen in white-ball cricket currently. The right-handed opener has so far scored 3658 runs in 98 ODIs, at an average of 40, and a staggering strike rate of 107; he smacks at a strike rate of 144 in T20Is.

Jason Roy was one of the key members of Eoin Morgan’s side during the white-ball cricket revolution in England. He played a pivotal role in England winning their maiden 50-over World Cup title in 2019 at home.

Jason Roy had some interesting picks when he was asked to choose his all-time best XI in 2016. The video of this is uploaded on the YouTube channel of Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Alastair Cook, Hashim Amla, both of whom are “great assets to any team” and backs them to get the side off to a fantastic start. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is in Roy’s team at number 3. The Englishman said that Tendulkar’s record – leading international run-scorer – speaks for itself and there was no doubt about the right-hander’s place in his side.

Roy picked Sri Lanka’s wicket-keeper Kumar Sangakkara, who can be versatile in his role – can play aggressively as well as steady the ship. At number 5, Jason Roy went with the stylish Kevin Pietersen, who he termed as a “game-changer” and expects big KP to win him games with the bat.

The opener decided to have two seam-bowling all-rounders in his line-up: legendary South African Jacques Kallis and compatriot Andrew Flintoff. Roy rationalised his choice of picking two all-rounders to add bowling depth.

There is only one spinner in Roy’s team, and it’s none other than Australia’s greatest spinner, Shane Warne, the second-highest international wicket-taker.

Jason Roy stacked up his bowling department with three elite and varied pacers. One of which is the lanky West Indian Ian Bishop, someone who Roy have heard a lot about.

The opening pace attack is a sizzling one – that of James Anderson and Dale Steyn. Anderson’s great record titled the scales in his favour as far Roy is concerned over many other pacers in the world, while the English opener wants Steyn to bowl rockets at the opposition and dismantle them in quick time.

Jason Roy’s all-time XI:

Alastair Cook, Hashim Amla, Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Kevin Pietersen, Jacques Kallis, Andrew Flintoff, Shane Warne, Ian Bishop, James Anderson, Dale Steyn
