Ashish Nehra Defends Jasprit Bumrah And Questions The Team Management

Ashish Nehra Defends Jasprit Bumrah: The Indian cricket team was whitewashed by New Zealand in the recently concluded three-match ODI series. The Blackcaps outplayed India in all the three departments of the game and completed one of the most memorable comebacks of recent times, after getting whitewashed in the five-match T20I series earlier.

There were many reasons behind India’s poor show but a big section of fans believe that Jasprit Bumrah’s poor form was the biggest reason behind’s India abysmal show in the ODI series. Jasprit Bumrah went wicketless in the three-match series and this was a big setback for Team India.

Jasprit Bumrah is one of the best bowlers in the world, across all three formats of the game and he has been Inda’s go-to bowler in times of crisis in the last two and a half years or so. When Jasprit Bumrah failed to take wickets and kept going for runs, Indian cricket fans expressed their worry and social media and started asking whether batters have found the way to counter his accuracy and unorthodox action.

Former Indian cricket Ashish Nehra has come in defense of Jasprit Bumrah and said that fans and team can’t expect Bumrah to deliver in every series.

“You can’t expect Bumrah to deliver in every series. One has to remember he is returning from injury. It’s difficult for anybody to keep performing at the top of his game all the time. Even Virat Kohli has had a quiet series,” Ashish Nehra told TOI.

Talking about the combination of players, Ashish Nehra said that the team management could have done better.

Ashish Nehra Defends Jasprit Bumrah And Questions The Team Management

“The Indian team management could be much better while picking the playing XI. The other pacers, besides Bumrah and (Mohammad) Shami, need to know their roles. They have got used to having Bumrah and Shami firing for the last two years. There’s too much pressure on Bumrah. There has been very little consistency in the team selection so far,” Ashish Nehra said.

“In the current scenario, Saini is better prepared for Test cricket than Umesh Yadav, since he has the momentum with the team. But he largely depends on the back-of a-length deliveries. If he can get his length a bit fuller at his pace, he would open up more chances of getting wickets behind the stumps,” the former Indian speedster added.
