Jasprit Bumrah Explained What Went Wrong For Team India In 5th Test Match Against England

The Indian cricket team led by Jasprit Bumrah lost the final Test match by 7 wickets as Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root staged an impeccable comeback and scored sublime centuries in the second innings. Both the England batters registered match-winning century to help their side end the series with a draw.

Jasprit Bumrah Named ‘Player Of The Series’

India’s sensational bowler and stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged as India’s ‘Player Of The Series’ award against England over 5 Tests. However, he walked up to the mic during the presentation ceremony rather disappointed, conceding that team India had probably let the game slip in the second innings, where the team was bowled out for 245 runs after taking a strong lead of 132 runs.

After the match, during the post-match presentation, Jasprit Bumrah said: “ I won’t go that far ahead (of calling himself an all-rounder). That’s the beauty of Test cricket, even if you have three good days. We fell short with the bat yesterday and that is where we let the opposition in to let the match slip away from us. Ifs and buts can always be there. If you go back, if there was no rain in the first match, we could have won the series.”

He added: “But England played really well. We have drawn the series and both teams played very good cricket and it was a fair result. We could have been a little straighter in our bowling lines and use the variable bounce.”

Furthermore, Bumrah also talked about how Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja’s centuries had brought the Indian side back into the game in the first innings. He said:

“Pant takes his chances. He and Jaddu got us back into the game with their counter-attack. We were ahead in the game. He takes his chances, backs himself and very happy for him. Dravid is always there to guide us and back us.”

Virat Kohli has seen Jasprit Bumrah flourish under him and reach the stage where he is now leading Team India.

Bumrah On His Captaincy Stint

Bumrah was also asked about his captaincy and talking about the same, he said that he enjoyed the new responsibility. He said:

“We could have been a little straighter in our bowling lines and use the variable bounce. The captaincy is not what I decide. I like the responsibility. It was a good challenge, a new challenge. It was an honor to lead the team and a great experience.”

After ending the 5-match Test series at 2-2, the Indian cricket team will now proceed to the white-ball leg of the tour.
