The Indian cricket team is gearing up for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, which is all set to kickstart later this month. However, ahead of the marque event, India has suffered a big blow as senior fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is set to be ruled out of the competition.

Yes, you read that right. Jasprit is set to be ruled out of the Asia Cup T20 tournament with a back injury, which would require some time to heal. The Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 will be selected on Monday but it is still not clear if the announcement will be made public on the day.

Asia Cup 2022: Huge Blow to India As Jasprit Bumrah Ruled Out With Back Injury

A senior official of the BCCI told PTI, on the condition of anonymity, about the injury of Jasprit Bumrah. He revealed:

“Jasprit Bumrah has a back injury and will not play in the Asia Cup. He is our main bowler and we would like him to be back in action before T20 World Cup. WE can’t risk him in Asia Cup and the injury could aggravate,”

Jasprit Bumrah was last seen playing for the Indian cricket team in the ODI series against England before being rested from the dead rubber against West Indies and the upcoming game against Zimbabwe.

However, considering the back injury, it is understandable that Bumrah will take some time to come back to the team. He will need to do rehabilitation work at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru before being deemed fit for the white-ball home series against Australia and South Africa in September-October.

Bumrah has faced similar issues a few years ago and he was even out of the squad for a long time. Currently, Bumrah is holidaying with his family in the United States.
