India’s ace seamer Jasprit Bumrah has emerged out as one of the most reliable players of the Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team. Time and again, Bumrah has provided team India with a much-needed breakthrough to pull them out of a difficult situation.
On Wednesday, Bumrah was at it again as he impressed everyone with his Jaffas as he picked two wickets in the second innings of the first Test against South Africa at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Rassie van der Dussen at the half-hour mark of the final innings with a beautiful incoming delivery. The stylish pacer followed it up with another stunning jaffa at the stroke of Stumps to remove nightwatchman Keshav Maharaj.
With the dismissal of van der Dussen, Jasprit Bumrah amassed 100 wickets away from home. He became the sixth Indian pacer to achieve the milestone, joining an elite list of bowlers including the likes of Kapil Dev, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, and Javagal Srinath.
However, the special thing about Bumrah’s feat was that he scripted a world record as he became the bowler with the fewest Test wickets to 100 dismissals away from home. Bumrah’s career tally currently stands at 105, out of which he has picked 101 wickets outside India, in 25 matches at 20.68 and at a strike rate of 47.6,
Jasprit Bumrah also surpassed Pakistan’s sensational Mohammed Amir, who had picked 118 career wickets at the point of his 100th away dismissal.
Meanwhile, India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour hailed Jasprit Bumrah’s breakthrough on Day 4 of the ongoing Test and he was all praises for him. He said: “That’s the quality of the bowler, he really set him up well”,
Talking about the final delivery, that resulted in Maharaj’s dismissal, Rathour said, “That’s what you expect from somebody like him. But all of us bowled really well. They were bowling really good lines.”
