Jay Shah Announces 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme' Of INR 40 Crore; Check Details

The BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has made a bumper announcement of the ‘Test Cricket Incentive Scheme’ for Senior Men Indian players. This is to promote incentives among players to pick up red-ball cricket, and this announcement from Jay Shah has been praised and appreciated by all.

This news came soon after the completion of the India vs England Test series in Dharamsala. India sealed the series 4-1, coming to win it from being 0-1 down, with a win by an innings and 64 runs in Dharamsala. Kuldeep Yadav was adjudged the Man of the Match while Yashasvi Jaiswal bagged the Player of the Series award.

There had been a huge furor earlier this month after the BCCI didn’t consider Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer for their latest central contracts as the duo had skipped the last round of the Ranji Trophy matches despite being asked to make themselves available.

Captain Rohit Sharma, too, had clearly stated that players who show hunger for Test cricket and red-ball cricket will only be considered.

Now, this step coming from the BCCI is not surprising. The board has allocated INR 40 crore to be handed to players as bonuses. In order to give monetary incentives to Test players and potential Test cricketers, the board will give the players bonuses based on the number of matches they play in the specified period.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah tweeted: “I am pleased to announce the initiation of the ‘Test Cricket Incentive Scheme’ for Senior Men, a step aimed at providing financial growth and stability to our esteemed athletes. Commencing from the 2022-23 season, the ‘Test Cricket Incentive Scheme’ will serve as an additional reward structure on top of the existing match fee for Test matches, set at INR 15 lakhs.”

Earlier this month, amid the drama with Kishan and Iyer and theirs being excluded from the central contracts, Jay Shah had expressed himself clearly about the board being aware of players aiming to prioritize IPL over domestic cricket.

Shah had said, “There is a trend that has started to emerge and is a cause for concern. Some players have begun prioritising the IPL over domestic cricket, a shift that was not anticipated. Domestic cricket has always been the foundation upon which Indian cricket stands, and it has never been undervalued in our vision for the sport.”
