Joe Root Took An Indirect Dig At The Pitch For The Pink-Ball Test

After team India defeated the England cricket team within two days in the just-concluded Pink-ball Test match, England’s skipper Joe Root took an indirect dig at the pitch prepared for the pink-ball Test match in Ahmedabad.

On Day 2 of the game, Joe Root claimed sensational figures of 5 four 8 in India’s first innings. However, the Indian cricket team made a strong comeback and bundled up the England cricket team for 81 runs.

The Indian cricket team has now taken the lead of 2-1 in the ongoing 4-match Test series against England. However, a debate regarding the pitch has kickstarted on social media with several cricketers and cricket experts coming out to express their concern. The latest one to weigh-in their opinions in the ongoing debate is none other than England’s skipper Joe Root.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Joe Root claimed that there was a lot of spin on the pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which helped even a non-bowler like him.

It sort of sums up the wicket slightly if I am getting five wickets out there. Obviously, it was giving fair amount of spin. Yes, it was nice to contribute. But it was disappointing that it came in a losing cause.”

Further, Joe Root pointed out that the plastic coating on the ball was making the ball gather pace off the wicket. He said:

“An element is probably the ball. To be brutally honest, due to the plastic coating, the ball gathers pace off the wicket. Generally, it was about being beaten for pace rather than just the line of things.”

Joe Root further admitted that the Indian bowlers gave an amazing performance however, he also added that both the teams struggled on the pitch with the bat. He said:

“It was high-quality bowling. You put the ball in the right areas consistently, some are going to spin, and some are going to go straight. Makes it very difficult for batters. Throughout the game, both sides struggled. It wasn’t just us.”
