England ace batter Joe Root picked up two crucial wickets with his off-spin to help his team take control of the game as Australian cricket was running away with the game on day one of the ongoing second Ashes Test match at the Lord’s.

Joe Root Took Two Quick Wickets In One Over

The England cricket team was in trouble before Root, who is a part-time bowler, offered the team some respite. Root gave a much-needed breakthrough by breaking the quick-fire partnership between Travis Head and Steve Smith. He dismissed Travis, followed by Cameron Green for a duck.

The dismissal took place in the 74th over of the innings as Ben Stokes called on Joe Root after running out of options. Root then spun the ball past Head, who came down the track to go down the ground as Jonny Bairstow stumped him. Meanwhile, Cameron Green looked to pull but he got it on the bat as James Anderson took a stunning catch at mid-on.

Joe Root picked up two quick wickets and made sure that captain Ben Stokes knew about it. In the viral video, Root could be seen saying “I told you!” to Stokes.

Earlier, Australia was asked to bat first under overcast conditions. The tourists had a solid start as Usman Khawaja and David Warner put on a 73-run opening stand before the former was dismissed. Warner reached his fifty with a stunning six off Josh Tongue.

Smith and Marnus Labuschagne formed a brilliant partnership for a century before Ollie Robinson removed the latter for 47 runs.

While Root’s quick wickets came as a big relief to the England team during the crunch second Test, which was being fully dominated by Australia, however, the visiting side was still the happier one. Australia reached 339 for five from 83 overs.

At the stumps, Steve Smith is on 85 not out from 149 balls, along with Alex Carey, who is batting on 11(not out) from 34 balls.
