Sunrisers Hyderabad’s new skipper Kane Williamson failed to take his team to the winning side in his first game as the skipper in the ongoing edition of the IPL. SRH was defeated by Rajasthan Royals by a big margin of 55 runs.
Apart from the poor performance of SRH, it was the absence of former skipper David Warner that became the biggest talking point of the game. Warner was not just sacked as the skipper of the team but was also dropped from the playing XI of the team, which eventually depleted the batting performance of the team.
Later after the match, in the post-match presentation, new skipper Kane Williamson talked about Warner’s exclusion from the playing XI. Talking about him, Williamson expressed that SRH will rethink their strategy. He said:
“He’s a world-class player and I’m sure a number of conversations will be had,”
Talking about the performance of his team, Kane Williamson heaped praises on Jos Buttler and the entire team for putting up a massive total on the scoreboard. He also said that the team needs to get better with the bat. He said:
“It was a tough day and a very competitive total from Rajasthan. Jos was outstanding and had his day out. With the bat, you need a few things to go your way. For us, we’ve had a number of challenges over the last three weeks, but we keep fronting up and make adjustments,”
Currently, SRH is sitting at the bottom of the points table. Further in the interview, Williamson also talked about how SRH can bounce back into the league and get back to winning ways from here on. He said:
“It’s character-building for us. Fine margins and this game can change quickly. Exceptional batting from Rajasthan, but we need to build on a few things. A number of leaders in the group and it’s important we stay right.”
SRH will be next seen locking their horns against Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians on May 4, it will be interesting to see if Kane Williamson will be able to lead his team to victory.
