‘Who Made That Fixture?’: Kapil Dev Expressed His Frustration With ODI World Cup 2023 Schedule

Legendary captain Kapil Dev feels that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) isn’t doing enough for its players considering the hectic schedule for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. The much-awaited tournament is slated to be held in India, with the opening match taking place on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad between New Zealand and England.

While the schedule for the World Cup has already been announced but as confirmed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah, the Indian board is expected to make some changes to it in the coming days.

Kapil Dev Expressed His Frustration With ODI World Cup 2023 Schedule

Meanwhile, regarding the hectic schedule of the Indian cricket team, Kapil Dev believes that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is not providing sufficient support for the players. The former Indian captain pointed out that India will be playing their group stage games at 9 different venues.

Dev also stated that the BCCI should offer the players the necessary amenities like chartered flights for travel during the marquee tournament. In an interview with The Week, Kapil expressed his frustration with the imbalanced travel schedule as he said:

“India is playing 11 matches and the amount of travelling they have to do…Who made that fixture? You are going to Dharmashala, then to Bengaluru, to Kolkata… playing in nine different places,”

Dev On Team India’s 10-Year-Long ICC Trophy Drought

Kapil Dev was also asked about India’s 10-year ICC (International Cricket Council) trophy drought. Responding to this, Dev stated that the Men in Blue under Rohit Sharma‘s captaincy will most likely reach the tournament’s finals. He feels India is doing good and it only needs to clear the final hurdle to end their trophy drought. He said:

“We are still playing well…we are reaching the finals, the semifinals,”
