Ahead of the IPL 2018 edition, a big news is coming from the Kolkata Knight Riders camp which would break the hearts of the KKR fans. The KKR management has decided to let go, skipper, Gautam Gambhir. Gautam Gambhir has led the KKR clinically and the team has won two titles under his fine leadership.
This news comes as a jolt both to Gautam Gambhir and his fans. The KKR would still have a chance to buy him back using the ‘Right To Match’ card but it seems almost certain that the KKR is not looking forward to retaining the 36-year-old Delhi batsman. Even Gautam Gambhir was left stunned when the team management did not even bother to contact him to have any discussions on the retention policies.
Earlier, Gautam Gambhir had also revealed that he is open to playing for any other team in the Indian Premier League’s 2018 installment. KKR would now have a new captain as the management has made its mind to let go Gautam Gambhir as the skipper of the team.
THIS KEY PLAYER RETAINED OVER GAMBHIR
The team management is very interested to retain Sunil Narine as per the reports in DNA India. Other players which would be considered by the franchise for retention include Manish Pandey, Chris Lynn, and Andre Russel.
The news has also confirmed that Gautam Gambhir would not be retained by the Kolkata Knight Riders for sure and the Kolkata Knight Riders would see itself being led by a new captain.
The last date to submit the list of retained players is January 4 and then the retention event will be streamed live on Star Sport which is the official broadcaster of the Indian Premier League.
Since his stint with the KKR, Gautam Gambhir has scored 3035 runs for the Kolkata Knight Riders. He led the side to win the title in 2012 and 2014 and has been a vital contributor to the fortunes of the Kolkata Knight Riders.
