As the game began at the Centurion, the Indian cricket team decided to bat first after the Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss. The Indian opener KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal walked out with all guns blazing and gave India a much-needed solid start to team India. Together they stitched up an 80-run stand and remained unbeaten in the first session.

After a brilliant first session, team India lost Mayank Agarwal and Pujara off successive deliveries. But Rahul stood strong in the middle and didn’t let the pressure get to his head. He formed another crucial partnership with the Indian skipper but soon Virat Kohli also marched to the pavilion. KL Rahul remained focused and added a few more runs and eventually reached his 7th century in the longest format of the game.

With this century, Rahul has now scored a century in all the countries he has played so far – India(1), West Indies(1), Sri Lanka(1), England(2), and South Africa(1). Not just this, Rahul also joined the batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and present Indian Test captain Virat Kohli in an elite list as he became the third batter from India to score a century in South Africa’s citadel, and 11th overall.

He also became only the second opener after Wasim Jaffer from the Indian team, to score a century in South Africa. Wasim Jaffer had scored a century during the Capetown Test in 2006-2007.
