KL Rahul‘s career in the past couple of years has been hit with major injuries and because of which he has and has to miss a major and important portion of cricket.
While last year it was a hernia injury after the IPL 2022, this year, it is a thigh injury that will require a surgery which will force him out of the remainder of the IPL 2023 season and the following WTC Final 2023 against Australia at The Oval.
On the morning of Friday, May 5th, it was confirmed that KL Rahul will miss the WTC Final against Pat Cummins side before, in the evening, the right-hander himself posted an emotional post on social media about his injury.
In the May 1st match against RCB in Lucknow, KL Rahul tore a tendon in his right leg while sprinting in a fielding effort to chase the ball racing away to the boundary. He didn’t opened in Lucknow Super Giants’ innings and came out at number 11. But because of being unable to run, he remained not out on 0 off 3 balls as LSG lost by 18 runs.
“Update – After careful consideration and consultation with the medical team, it’s been concluded that I’ll be undergoing a surgery on my thigh shortly. My focus will be on my rehabilitation and recovery in the coming weeks. It’s a tough call to make, but I know it’s the right one to ensure a full recovery,” KL Rahul posted in his social media note.
When will KL Rahul return?

Having decided to undergo a thigh surgery, KL Rahul is ruled out for at least a couple of months – he will miss the remainder of the IPL 2023 (May) and the WTC Final (June).
In the WTC Final vs Australia, Rahul was expected to take up the middle-order position vacated by the injured Shreyas Iyer, but now it seems that Ajinkya Rahane will slot back straightaway in the middle-order.
“Absolutely gutted that I won’t be at the Oval next month with Team India. I’ll do everything I can to get back in blue and help my country. That has always been my focus and priority,” the 31-year-old added.
Who will lead Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after injury to KL Rahul?
Krunal Pandya will be the interim skipper for LSG for the remainder of the IPL 2023 campaign.
