Kraigg Brathwaite becomes the first batsman in history to score 7 off first scoring shot

West Indies’ opening batsman Kraigg Brathwaite has become the first batsman in Test cricket history to make seven runs from his first scoring shot. Brathwaite achieved this feat in the fourth over of the West Indies’ second innings of the third Test of the ongoing series between South Africa and West Indies.

Brathwaite ran three and gained four extra when AB de Villiers threw at the bowler’s end and gave four extra runs, as there was no one backing up and the ball went to the boundary.

This was the first occasion in Test cricket history a batsman had gotten off the mark in this fashion. However, three other batsmen have scored seven runs off one ball since 2001 – Michael Clarke (2006), Andrew Symonds (2008) and Chris Rogers (2014) being the others.

Brathwaite, however, failed to capitalize on the start and added only 9 more runs. He was dismissed for 16 runs by Test debutant Simon Harmer.

West Indies legend Clive Lloyd had recently lavished praise on the Kraigg Brathwaite for the maturity the youngster showed in the 2nd Test against South Africa, where the 22-year-old made his 3rd Test century and helped West Indies force a draw against a formidable South African bowling attack.

These days, due to the presence of statisticians, we keep getting the updates of all the records through television and the internet including the social media.

Kraigg Brathwaite has entered the record books with this record and there is a big chance that he might hold this record for a very long time to come. Brathwaite became the first batsman in this history of Test cricket to score seven from his first scoring shot. This is not a record that Brathwaite will be really proud of, but by the virtue of this record, Brathwaite has earned a special footnote in cricketing annals.
