Kuldeep Yadav has gone through very high points and very low points in his career. He burst onto the scene around 2017 and became a key cog for India heading into the World Cup 2019. There, though, he got a hammering from England and that spiralled a downward curve in his career.
From mid-2019 to 2022, Kuldeep Yadav suffered setbacks with loss in form and also injuries. For a major knee injury, he needed surgery and that forced him to be away from the game.
Now, the wrist-spinner has revealed an important piece of advice that Rohit Sharma gave him when they met at the NCA a couple of years ago when he was rehabbing.
Kuldeep Yadav credits Rohit Sharma’s advice for his revival
Kuldeep reveals Rohit told him to get quicker through the air while also not decreasing the revs on the ball. That way, he would be very difficult to read off the pitch and force batters to read him off his hand, which is not easy in the first place.
Speaking with The Indian Express, Kuldeep said, “He was there at the NCA when I was there rehabbing and then bowling. He would say, ‘When I stand at slip, I feel the batsmen have enough time to play you off the pitch.’ He said I needed to get more energy through the action and that the batsman shouldn’t get the time to play me. If the batter thinks he can get onto the back foot to play me off the pitch, the ball should rush to hit the stumps or the pad.”
Kuldeep Yadav has bounced back since last year. He bowled superbly in ODI cricket last year and was a key figure in India’s bowling attack in the dream run of 10 consecutive wins in the World Cup.
This year, his revival in Test cricket came with the series against England. He picked 19 wickets in 4 Test matches, all of which India won. More importantly, he outsmarted the Bazballers with his lines. The left-arm wrist-spinner has laid a strong claim to start in India’s Test XI in the Test series in Australia later this year.
