Kumar Sangakkara Has A Very Special Message For Virat Kohli

The record for most runs in a calendar year belongs to Kumara Sangakkara. He piled up a hefty tally of 2868 runs in 2014 which is the highest ever. Kohli fell short of 50 runs from breaking the record and he would have surely left Sangakkara behind had he not asked for rest from the ODI series and T20 series against Sri Lanka.

Sangakkara has scored 12400 runs in 134 Test matches and is fifth on the list of all time scorers. He had scored 28,016 runs in his entire career and hence such a compliment coming Kohli’s way from someone as great as Sangakkara is a big thing.

Virat Kohli led India to a 1-0 win in the 3 Match Test series. This was India’s 9th straight Test series win under Kohli which again is a record in itself. Virat Kohli has made records a habit be it as a batsman then or as a captain.

Cricket fans and journalists have always compared players of previous generations with the current cricketers.

A journalist took to Twitter and wrote:

Kumar Sangakkara’s 2868 runs in 2014 will remain as the highest tally ever recorded in a calendar year as Virat Kohli ends year 2017 with 2818 runs #Cricket

To which Sangakkara replied, and denied Kohli would break the record in the coming years, he wrote:

I don’t think that will last long the way @imVkohli is batting. He will probably overtake it next year and then do it again the year after. He is a different class.
