Kumar Sangakkara Reveals Why Jofra Archer Wasn’t Retained

Many eyebrows were raised when Rajasthan Royal didn’t include England’s star fast bowler Jofra Archer on the IPL retention day. Archer is the fastest bowler in the world an he is also capable of scoring valuable runs with the bat, and this is why many Royals’s fans were hoping to see him in the retention list.

However, Royals’s head coach and former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara gave a clarification on why the franchise didn’t retain him. Sanga said that the biggest reason why they didn’t;t include Archer was his issues with fitness and his long-term injury fired them to drop him from the list.

“We had to take a lot of factors into consideration while making the decision and would have ideally liked to have gone with four players but the uncertainty surrounding Jofra’s long-term injury forced us to retain only three,” Kumar Sangakkara said.

Sangakkara also added that dropping Jofra Archer was a very tough decision to make, but Royals are still happy and satisfied with the names they have retained.

“It was certainly a tough decision to make, but we are delighted to confirm that Sanju (Samson), Jos and Yashasvi (Jaiswal) will be staying with us as the backbone of our team,” Kumar Sangakkara added.

Rajasthan Royals management have decided to retain Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal and they are hoping to build their squad around these three excellent cricketers. It is noteworthy that Rajasthan Royals have invested in young players like Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jasiwal and given a hint of things to come in the IPL 2022 auction.

They didn’t even retain England’s all-rounder Ben Stokes, who is one of the finest cricketers in the world. We are assuming that it’s because of the personal issues that Stokes has had in the recent past and he has backed off some very important tournaments for personal reasons pertaining to his mental health.
