Hard-hitting batsman Tim David became a millionaire on Sunday as he was given a jackpot contract worth 8.25 crore by the Mumbai Indians at the IPL 2022 mega-auction.

Tim David had last year become the first Singapore international player to play in the IPL when he was roped in by the Royal Challengers Bangalore as the replacement of Finn Allen. David, however, is registered as an Australian. In the future, the 25-year-old may shift his base to Australia upon availing of eligibility. He featured in just one game for RCB last year and scored a solitary run.

Tim David has been going around the franchise circuit in the world and has made a name for himself as one of the most fearsome power-hitters and can bowl handy off-spin. He has played 85 T20 matches, scoring 1908 runs at an average of 34; his strike rate of 159 stands out.

After Singapore was given international status by ICC in T20Is, in 14 T20 Internationals with 558 runs, David has struck at 158.

In fact, Tim David’s father, Rod, is also an ex-Singapore international and represented the country in the 1997 ICC World Cup qualifier, a tournament that was won by Bangladesh.

While David by birth became a Singapore passport holder, the family migrated back to Australia and he grew up in Perth. His father apart from being an ex Singapore international is also an engineer.

He has represented a number of teams around the globe: Singapore, Australian Universities, Hobart Hurricanes, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Perth Scorchers, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Southern Brave (Men), St Lucia Kings, Surrey, Western Australia Under-23s, and Western Australia XI.

The 25-year-old’s proclivity of sending the ball over the boundary line, his part-time off-spin, and a long-term prospect made the Mumbai Indians keen on attaining the right-hander’s services.

Mumbai staved off the competition from five franchises – KKR, DC, LSG, PBKS, and RR – to land Tim David for a handsome sum of 8.25 crore.
