Talks about MS Dhoni’s retirement has become an everyday story. While the speculations on his retirement are at its peak, fans of MS Dhoni are waiting anxiously for the former skipper to make a comeback but there is still no clarity over when will he return to action.
The former skipper played his last international match against New Zealand in the semi-final of the World Cup. As soon as the world cup was over, he took a sabbatical from the game and kept on extending it.
Recently, MS Dhoni himself made it clear to not ask any questions about his future until January 2020. MS Dhoni missed the home T20I series against South Africa and Bangladesh. He was also not included in the ongoing T20I series against West Indies.
Ravi Shastri, India’s head coach revealed that MS Dhoni’s chances of being selected in the World Cup will be based on how he fares in the 2020 IPL for his team Chennai Super Kings. Talking about the same, he said:
“It all depends on when he starts playing and how he is playing during the IPL. What are the other people doing with the wicket-keeping gloves or what is the form of those players as opposed to Dhoni’s form. The IPL becomes a massive tournament because that could be the last tournament after which more or less your 15 is decided,”
Furthermore, Ravi Shastri said that the former skipper wanted a break but will be available to play the upcoming IPL. He also left it on Dhoni to decide his availability after IPL. He said:
“That guy is a legend. The last thing he will want is to impose himself on an Indian team, having known him. He is wanting to take a break but he is going to play the IPL,”
He added:
“The amount of sport he has played… if he puts himself in contention… if he feels after the IPL that ‘I am good enough to play for India’, don’t mess around with that,”
