Virat Kohli once again managed to leave his fans stunned, as days after announcing his decision to step down from India’s T20 captaincy, Virat has now made another big announcement. On Sunday, Royal Challengers Bangalore announced Virat Kohli’s decision of stepping down from RCB’s captaincy duties as well.

Well, on Sunday, Royal Challengers Bangalore via their official social media handle announced that skipper Virat Kohli would be stepping down from the team’s captaincy after the completion of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.

Virat Kohli, who has been one of the most decorated players of the franchise, has been associated with RCB since its inception in 2008. He became the regular captain at Royal Challengers in 2013. And ever since then, he has captained 132 matches and is only behind CSK’s skipper MS Dhoni, who has captained 196 matches. Though, Virat has played many memorable performances and has made numerous records but he has never won the tournament.

In a video shared by RCB, Kohli pointed out that it wasn’t an easy decision for him but it was taken in the interests of the team. Virat Kohli also stated that he would remain with RCB till the time he plays in IPL. He said:

“It has been a great and an inspiring journey, captaining a talented bunch of players in the RCB squad. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the RCB management, coaches, support staff, players, and the entire RCB family, who have been instrumental in the growth of the franchise over the years.”

He added:

“It wasn’t an easy decision but one that has been well thought of and in the best interest of this wonderful franchise. The RCB family remains close to my heart as we continue to strive to achieve excellence. As I have mentioned previously in many occasions, I will only play for RCB until my retirement from the game of cricket”

Among many, popular Twitter users Madhav Sharma explained why Virat Kohli fans should welcome his decision. Madhav believes that this step will allow Virat to focus more on his batting performances and stay ahead in the challenges. He wrote:

“Honestly, Virat Kohli fans (like myself) should welcome this decision. He is a run-machine and giving up T20 captaincy and RCB captaincy, will allow him to focus more on his batting and stay ahead of the challenges. Like a true champion, he has taken a tough, but the right call.”
