Despite the massive victory over Punjab Kings in Mohali, the Lucknow Super Giants have a cause of worry: Marcus Stoinis’ finger injury that he sustained while bowling.

Marcus Stoinis was the star of the show today – with the bat he cracked 72 runs off 40 balls helping LSG post 257 and then dismissed Shikhar Dhawan in the first over of PBKS’ chase – until he walked off the field with a finger injury in the third over of PBKS’s chase.

Marcus Stoinis dismissed Dhawan in the first over and then, in his second over, he was drilled down the ground by Atharva Taide. The Australian brought out his hands to stop the ball but the ball was hit with power by Taide and it deflected off the bowler’s hands causing a worrisome finger injury.

He was wincing in pain and called for the physio. The physio attended Marcus Stoinis for a while but the pain didn’t subside and the Australian was advised to take off the field. Stoinis thought it was his best course to get some more treatment on the finger and see later on the extent of the injury.

If the injury is serious and Stoinis has to miss game(s), it is a big concern for KL Rahul and Gautam Gambhir as the all-rounder is a key component of their side.

There was little respite for the PBKS bowlers today as the LSG batters stormed in Mohali today. Kyle Mayers cracked 54 off 24 and took LSG’s total to 74 in the powerplay. After Mayers’ blitz in the powerplay, it was about to get even worse for PBKS.

Ayush Badoni scored 43 runs off 24 balls and was involved in a big partnership of 89 (47) with Marcus Stoinis, who raised a fifty. Stoinis was then involved in another gigantic stand with Nicholas Pooran worth 76 (30). Both the batters smothered the ball with utter disdain and the PBKS bowlers all around the park: Stoinis scored 72 off 40 and Pooran scored 45 off 19 as LSG became only the second team to cross the 250-mark in the IPL. They, however, fel l only 6 runs short of RCB’s highest total of 263 runs.
