"What The Hell Was That Marnus?" - Marnus labuschagne Got Trolled Badly For His Dead-Slow Innings

Marnus Labuschagne Got Trolled Badly For His Dead-Slow Innings: In a sharp departure from the opening day’s proceedings, Australia adopted a defensive strategy during the fifth and final Test at The Oval. Their goal was to bat long, and by lunch on Day 2, they had added a meagre 54 runs. England put in substantial effort on the second morning, but Australia’s resolve resulted in just a single wicket loss.

Neither team surrendered an inch during the initial hour of play. James Anderson tested Usman Khawaja’s mettle, while Mark Wood maintained a quiet atmosphere. The two batsmen remained content to play the long game. Stuart Broad was the closest to snaring a wicket before the drinks break, narrowly missing Marnus Labuschagne’s outside edge multiple times.

At one point, Broad skilfully positioned the right-hander and drove a ball inwards that collided with his pads. Had the ball not swung sharply inwards, Labuschagne could have been declared leg-before-wicket. In another close call, Marnus Labuschagne nearly offered a catch to the leg slip fielder, only for the ball to fall slightly short. Despite 14 overs, Australia only managed to scrape together 21 runs.

The eagerly-awaited breakthrough came after the drinks break when Wood terminated Marnus Labuschagne’s innings. The fast bowler, standing wide of the crease, bowled a brilliant delivery that clipped Labuschagne’s outside edge. This created an opportunity for Joe Root at first slip to execute a remarkable one-handed catch to his left, ending the resilient partnership.

Marnus Labuschagne’s slow innings saw him scoring a paltry 9 runs off 82 balls, leading to significant criticism and mockery. The day showcased the unpredictability and strategic nuance of cricket, from Australia’s defensive approach to England’s determined efforts for a breakthrough. The day’s events served as a reminder of the old adage that cricket is indeed a game of glorious uncertainties.

Can see what he was doing but he didn’t get the chance to cash in. Took a great catch to Remove him. Still got plenty of batsmen in the shed and time to get a great score and put the pressure on England. 👊🏻 https://t.co/P2R7O7DV18
