Indian opener Mayank Agarwal, who impressed one and all with his batting heroics on the second Test match against Mumbai, has now jumped to the 11th spot in the Test rankings. Mayank Agarwal, who was going through a rough patch in his career, made a stunning comeback into the International scene as he scored 150 and 62 and helped India seal the series against New Zealand with a win of 1-0.

Prior to this innings, there were significant speculations over his place in the Test squad ahead of the game in Mumbai as he struggled in the Kanpur match, however, Agarwal silenced everyone with his bat. After team India won the series, he was adjudged the Man of the Match for his brilliant show with the bat. Not just this, all thanks to his terrific performances, Mayank got his name permanently etched on the Wankhede Stadium’s honors board.

This isn’t just a name on a board. This is all the hardwork culminating into something that goes beyond. Remembering his knock, Mayank Agarwal hailed coach Rahul Dravid for helping him with the mental and technical aspects that helped him come out of a century drought. He revealed how Dravid advised him to focus on the present and keep a tab on his emotions. He said:

“He [Rahul Dravid] said I know you haven’t got a lot of runs but just manage your emotions. Manage your mental energy and your thoughts. Don’t dwell too much on it, he helped in the mental aspect,” as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

He added:

“On the technical aspect, he insisted that this is the technique which gave you a lot of runs in the past. Just stick to that, the runs will come. Back the things that have worked for you, and fortunately in the very next innings, the runs came,”

Meanwhile, Agarwal’s heroics with the bat has also resulted in his selection in the 18-member squad for the upcoming South Africa series, where team India will be playing three Tests followed by 3-ODIs. However, with Rohit and KL Rahul both back in the team, India’s opening combination has become one of the most talked-about topics on social media.
