Mayank Dagar Has Impressed One And All In The Ranji Trophy: Virender Sehwag was known for his blockbuster batting and is amongst the most destructive batters to have played the game. Sehwag’s nephew, Mayank Dagar, is a wily left-arm spinner and is making big waves in the ongoing Ranji Trophy tournament.

Mayank Dagar is the son of Virender Sehwag’s cousin, and represents Himachal Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy. In the recent game against Tripura and Dagar made sizzling performances across both innings.

25-year-old Dagar was also part of the India under-19 team that reached the final of the 2016 under-19 World Cup. Then, he was India’s best bowler, snaring three wickets however India still lost the game against West Indies under-19.

Last week, Dagar was among wickets, taking 9 scalps in total in the Group F game in Delhi, helping Himachal Pradesh to a massive win by an innings and 30 runs, in the Ranji Trophy. Tripura’s batsmen fell prey to Mayank’s crafty left-arm orthodox spin-bowling.

He took 5 wickets for 55 runs with 4 maiden overs in the spell of 21.2 overs in the first innings of a very important Ranji Trophy game for his side, including dismissing Tripura’s top three. In the second innings, he bowled 13.4 overs in the second innings, and returned with figures of 4/30.

Himachal Pradesh batted first and put a total of 365 on the board courtesy of a big hundred from skipper Ankit Kalsi; Raghav Dhawan also played a good knock of 68 runs. Tripura were bowled out for 202 and 133.

After his impressive show in the T20 World Cup, Mayank Dagar was bought by Punjab Kings in 2018 for 20 lakh but didn’t get to make his IPL debut. He has since been going unsold at the IPL auctions.

Mayank Dagar has taken 75 wickets in 25 first-class matches at an average of 28 and has shown signs of improvement in recent domestic tournaments. He’s also a handy batsman, averaging 20 in first-class cricket.
