India’s middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the Asia Cup Super 4 match against Sri Lanka because of a back spasm. The news was announced by the BCCI about an hour before the match on Tuesday. Shreyas is currently being observed closely by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) staff, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) managers, and the Colombo-based team management.
Notably, Shreyas Iyer had suffered a niggle during the warm-up session on Sunday ahead of India’s match against Pakistan. He didn’t travel with the team to the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, BCCI added. The BCCI had revealed:
“Shreyas Iyer is feeling better but is yet to fully recover from back spasm. He has been adviced rest by the BCCI Medical Team and has not travelled with the team to the stadium today for India’s Super 4 match against Sri Lanka,”

On Sunday, ahead of the India vs. Pakistan game, a team representative revealed that Iyer had a back spasm during warm-up. During the toss, Indian captain Rohit Sharma revealed that the problem was discovered during warm-up, and because of this Iyer will have to sit out.
Rohit also said that the choice to go with KL Rahul was decided just 5 minutes before the toss. The decision turned out in favor of team India as Rahul smashed a stunning century against arch-rivals and helped the team win the crucial game.
Now according to the reports, Shreyas Iyer is anticipated to be ready for selection in the Asia Cup’s later games, and there is currently no plan to send him back.
