MI vs LSG: Rohit Sharma Is Getting Trolled Royally

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma’s torrid form with the bat continued as he departed after scoring just 6 runs off 7 balls versus Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday at the Brabourne Stadium. This was Sharma’s third score of 10 runs or lesser in 6 innings this season.

Chasing a massive target of 200 runs, the Mumbai Indians needed their skipper to step up and deliver today, especially given they have lost all of their 5 matches this season.

Rohit Sharma played an elegant flick over mid-wicket to Avesh Khan for his first boundary. A ball later, however, Avesh responded in style dismissing the MI captain. A back of length delivery outside off to which Rohit looked to guide through to thirdman, but could only manage a thin edge that wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock grabbed going low.

De Kock celebrated and the umpire’s finger went up; Rohit looked up in the sky in disappointment as his rut of low scores continued.

In the previous two matches, Rohit has played some sumptuous strokes and even got starts – 26 off 15 vs RCB, 28 off 17 vs PBSK – and even though he failed to convert those starts into a big score, it felt as though a match-winning knock was near the corner by the MI skipper. However, it wasn’t to be today, vs Lucknow.

In fact, Rohit’s form in the IPL over the past few years has been underwhelming: since 2017, he averages a mediocre 26 at a strike rate of 127 – numbers you’d expect to be better for a regular, acclaimed international opener.

His captaincy – winning titles for MI – and other batters around him have masked his mediocre numbers in the past few years, but these have come to the attention this season as MI fail to register a win.

As Rohit Sharma got dismissed early on, fans took to Twitter to express their different emotions – anger, exasperation, some trolled, some put out memes – regarding the dip in form of the MI captain.

Here are some of the best reactions to another of Rohit Sharma’s early failure:
