Michael Vaughan Reveals Why India Didn’t Pick Rohit Sharma For The Tour Of Australia

Michael Vaughan Reveals Why India Didn’t Pick Rohit Sharma For The Tour Of Australia: The Indian skipper, Virat Kohli has raised the bar of fitness very high as far as the selection of the squad is concerned. Rohit Sharma, when he returned back to the field after the lockdown, looked like he has put on some weight. However, the talented cricketer wasn’t named in the squad for the upcoming tour to Australia because of the hamstring injury he had sustained during the clash against KXIP last month.

While the decision of BCCI reflected that Rohit is seriously injured, however, his action has suggested otherwise. Rohit Sharma returned back to the league as the skipper of Mumbai Indians and also claimed that he is ‘fit and fine‘.

All this has led to confusion and many cricketers and cricket experts are opening up on this matter and are asking BCCI the right questions.

The latest one to talk about it and express his disappointment over the whole case is former England skipper Michael Vaughan. Talking to Cricbuzz, Vaughan revealed why Rohit wasn’t picked for the upcoming tour. He said:

“From Ravi Shastri’s statement, it reads to me that they want him to get more conditioned in the body. Maybe he’s not quite as fit. We know the kind of bus Virat Kohli drives is a very fit one. If you are not part of the fit bus, you kind of get moved aside, does not matter who you are. That’s the matter, maybe he is not as fit as he could be,”

Vaughan claimed the BCCI should clear the situation and should also explain the reason behind the omission of Rohit Sharma from the squad. He said:

“If Rohit Sharma has got an injury, tell us what the injury is. Make it very clear, that look he’s got a hamstring problem. Fine, not a problem, we understand that is why he is not playing. If it is just that because he is not playing because he might get injured, I have never heard that before in my life,”

Furthermore, terming it as ‘very odd and strange’, Michael Vaughan expressed his surprise over the entire matter. He stated that Rohit Sharma should go to Australia if he keeps playing in the IPL. He said:

“I am intrigued about the next week or so – how it plays with Rohit Sharma, if he does play, then surely he is going to Australia. I can’t see why he would not go to Australia if he is playing in the IPL.”

He added:

“I am intrigued about the way it’s been handled. It’s very odd and strange that it’s not open and honest. It seems like it doesn’t need to be the way it is. It’s Rohit Sharma – if he’s injured, tell us he’s injured. That’s not a problem – players do get injured,”
