India’s pacer Mohammed Shami, who was a part of the Indian team in the final against Australia, expressed that he felt sad upon seeing that picture. During an interaction with media persons, Shami said:

“This hurt me a lot as well. All countries fight for this trophy, everyone wants to lift the trophy over their head. And I didn’t like that he rested his foot on that trophy. He should not be doing that,”

Meanwhile, following the World Cup win, Marsh has been giving several interviews with local newspapers and radio channels. In one of these interviews, he was questioned about the controversial photo. Marsh clarified that there was no intention of disrespecting the trophy in that act. He further mentioned that if they were to win the World Cup again, he would repeat the action.

“Yeah probably, to be honest,” Marsh said when asked if he would do it again. “There was obviously no disrespect meant in that photo at all. I haven’t given it too much thought, I haven’t seen a lot on social media even though everyone tells me it’s gone off. There’s nothing in that,”
