T20 WORLD CUP 2022

ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Player Profile: Mitchell Starc

News DeskBy News Desk14/10/2022Updated:09/02/2023No Comments4 Mins Read

Ever since Mitchell Starc made his debut against India in 2010, it was there for everyone to see that the game of cricket has been blessed with another one from the legendary conveyor belt of elite left-arm pacers. He had the menace. He had the mindset, but more importantly, he had all the qualities that made him stand out from the rest of the lot. 12 years later, Mitchell Starc is still the primary pacer and the only beacon of uniformity in a bowling attack that has gone through the ringer in recent years.

Why did Mitchell Starc stop playing the IPL?

At 32, while Mitchell Starc has lost a that yard of pace owing to his age as well as a spate of injuries. He still is frighteningly accurate and can still nail those yorkers with a sniper-like precision (You can ask Ben Stokes). Add to it the fact that he barely plays any sort of franchise cricket in any country. He enters the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in perfect shape, not to forget that batsmen will find him to be an unknown quantity. This is inspite of him being in the game for more than a decade.

Mitchell Starc: ICC T20 World Cup 2022

With the 2022 edition of the ICC T20 World Cup to be held in the home of the defending champions, Australia, the attacking left-arm pacer will be an asset to his side. With 63 wickets in 51 games, at an economy of 7.5, Starc is the one who is always trusted with the new ball to give them the early breakthroughs.

On pitches that have bounce and that early help for the seamers, Mitchell Starc can be utterly devastating and can run riot even against the best of batting line-ups in world cricket. His action, while smooth to the eye, is a nightmare for the batsman, because they are well aware that behind that easygoing action is a bowler baying for their blood, and their wicket as well.

Is Mitchell Starc a big tournament player?

Mitchell Starc absolutely enjoys playing big Tournaments, and comes into his own when there is a big match to play. He was the leading wicket-taker in both the 2015 and 2019 ICC T20 World Cup, and also won the player of the tournament in 2015. Starc is someone who enjoys these situations. He loves the adversity, he loves the challenge, and that is what makes him stand out. He approaches this tournament with a wealth of experience and arguably some of the best bowlers giving him company.

What more could you ask for when leading your bowling attack on the biggest stage at home. For all his excellence in the longer format of the game, be it Tests or One-dayers, T20s is something that he has not completely figured out. While he does have very good figures and performances, he has not yet had the desired impact in a major tournament like he does in the other formats. How he would like to change that.

Is Mitchell Starc the fastest bowler?

Mitchell Starc is said to be the fastest bowler in the world at present, with his fastest ball at around 160.4 kph. He is also the fastest to 100 ODI wickets (51 matches) and also 200 ODI wickets, beating the likes of Saqlain Mushtaq (104) and Brett Lee (112) and Allan Donald (117). In the tournament last year, he took a total of 9 wickets in 7 matches, which helped his team lift the T20 World Cup 2021 title. He will wish to do the same and retain the title at home.

With Starc still bowling at an elite level, and approaching the tournament fully healthy and rested, teams all across will be gulping in anxiety to face a fully fired up Starc coming for them.
