It’s the Ashes and when it comes to this tradition cricketing rivalry between Australia and England, aggression, emotions and controversies don’t remain sidelined at all. In the ongoing test match which is the first of this season’s Ashes, the first 4 days went pretty well since there wasn’t any controversy. But the fourth day a controversy managed to sneak in while England was batting in their second innings at Gaba.

Moeen Ali was playing on 40 before he missed on from Nathan Lyon and Tim Paine was quick to dislodge the nails and appeal for a stumping. The umpire decided to go upstairs the TV umpire, Chris Gaffaney.

The TV umpire took a lot of time to decide and viewed the stumping from different angles. He tried hard to crack this one from both, normal view and slow motion but it remained a tough decision since the part of the crease where Ali had dragged his bat had curved in.

After giving it a lot of time the TV umpire decided that Moeen Ali be sent back to the pavilion. Ali was amply disappointed at the decision since he thought he had made it back to the crease. This decision created a controversy and even the commentators had different views upon the judgement of the TV umpire.

While Clarke said that Moeen Ali should have got the benefit of doubt, Warnie said that the decision was absolutely right. With Mooen Ali falling, England went from being 154/5 to being all out for mere 195.

Clearly, this decision of the TV umpire triggered the collapse of the England batting. This is how Moeen Ali reacted to his dismissal which still remains a doubtful controversy. Aussies have an edge over the British after a superb knock from Steve Smith who led from the front.
