The former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir is regarded as one of the most talented cricketers to have played for team India. He has given many memorable performances for team India however, his heroics in the World Cup are still afresh in everyone’s minds.
Mohammad Irfan, Pakistan’s pacer has opined that Gautam Gambhir’s international career came to an end after he was not able to negotiate the left-arm pacer. Recently, in interaction with Sawera Pasha on the YouTube show ‘Cric Cast’, Mohammad Irfan spoke about his duels with Indian cricketers. Talking about how he once made that Gambhir’s career had ended because of him. He said:
“Actually whenever we have India-Pakistan matches, whoever does not perform well he becomes a zero and whoever performs becomes a hero.”
He recalled his teammates telling him that Gambhir was not looking his usual self while facing him as he was not able to read his deliveries. He said:
“The way I was bowling to Gautam Gambhir, he was not able to see the ball, the way he was playing my bouncer, everyone was saying that he is not looking like Gautam Gambhir.”
He further mentioned how he felt he was responsible for ending the career of Gautam Gambhir. He said:
“Because there was so much pressure of my height and my bowling, so I had said from my side that I felt like that because after that he didn’t come back in the team, he was dropped from the team.”
He added:
“After that he played a few matches only and there also he could not perform. So, that was his last tour in 2012 when he played against me. So, that is why I said like that.”
