Mohammad Kaif Has A Stern Warning For India For The World Cup 2023

Mohammad Kaif Has A Stern Warning For India For The World Cup 2023: The cricketing world is looking ahead to the World Cup 2023 with anticipation, but Mohammed Kaif, the former Indian cricketer, has a word of caution. As Jasprit Bumrah prepares to lead the side in the upcoming T20 series in Ireland, all eyes are on him. This series marks Bumrah’s return to action after almost a year of recovery from back surgery.

Kaif believes that India could struggle in the World Cup’s knockout games without Bumrah, much like the challenges faced in the T20 World Cup in Australia last year. Contrary to the belief that India has enough depth to field two or three teams, Kaif insists this is not the case in the bowling department. He emphasizes the critical role of injured players in determining India’s chances in the World Cup.

“Bumrah is now coming back after a long injury lay-off, and we will get an idea of how fit he is,” said Kaif. He further stressed, “India needs a fully fit Bumrah to do well in the World Cup at home.”

Kaif dismissed the idea of having two teams in the bowling department, arguing that without Bumrah, India would lose, as seen in the Asia Cup T20 and the 2022 T20 World Cup. He stated, “We don’t have his backup.”

Kaif also expressed concerns about the team’s current state, noting key absences such as KL Rahul, Pant, Iyer, and most importantly, Bumrah. “At the moment the team is not looking the strongest on paper,” commented the 42-year-old.

The experimentation in the ODI series in the Caribbean and the decision to rest Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been met with criticism. Kaif, however, refrained from judging the team based on the West Indies tour. He suggested that if Sharma and Kohli needed a break, they should not have been part of the squad.

“I will judge them from the Asia Cup and the 15 they pick for the tournament,” Kaif said. He emphasized the importance of having a clear strategy from the Asia Cup onwards. “They have to be sure what their 11 is and what their backups are,” he added.
