Claiming 24 wickets, Mohammed Shami cemented his position as the ODI World Cup 2023’s top wicket-taker. Dominating the event, Shami displayed what he is about and helped India qualify for the final. Sadly, a foot injury has forced him to remain out of the game since then.

For Shami as well as his supporters, this setback has been irritating. He is now preparing to return, however, for the next home Test series against Bangladesh. Shami’s comeback guarantees a much needed cushion to Indian bowling attack. The fans will be expecting him to come back to his best and pick up consistent wickets going forward.
Shami in a recent interview revealed that the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, does not like to face him in the nets. On the other hand he said that Kohli and him always have a go at each other in the nets and they try to dominate each other.
Shami said: “Rohit to pehle hi kehta hai ‘mai isko khelna pasand nahi karta’. Woh to pehle hi mana kar deta hai (Rohit says I don’t like to face him, he refuses to bat against me).”
Shami added: “Virat se to mera hamesha se rehta hai ki hum ek dusre ko challenge dete hain (We challenge each other). He likes to hit good shots, I like to get him out. The bonding and the friendship reflects in that. It also helps you focus and put in the effort as you simulate (fielding positions), for example, two (imaginary) slips in place, two gully fielders. (So I challenge Virat) to come at me and score runs. We enjoy such things.”
