Mohammed Shami Thanked Fans For Appreciating India’s Bowling Attack

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami believes that the team’s bowling unit has gained significant recognition from fans and is no longer in the shadow of the dominant batting lineup led by Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill.

Well, Shami emerged as a key player for India during the ICC Cricket World Cup held in India last year. With high expectations following the 2011 tournament victory, Shami played a crucial role in the team’s performance.

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team had a flawless run in the tournament, remaining undefeated throughout the league stages. However, their luck ran out on the night of the finale. They struggled in both batting and bowling departments, failing to score enough runs in the first innings and then struggling to defend a low target of 241 in front of a massive crowd at the world’s largest cricket stadium.

Meanwhile, during an interview with News18, Mohammed Shami expressed his belief that his match-winning spell had a significant impact on how fans perceive India’s bowling unit. He noted a positive shift in the conversation among cricket enthusiasts, indicating that they are now discussing bowling performances rather than solely focusing on the batting prowess of the team.

Shami’s stellar performance likely contributed to elevating the profile of India’s bowling battery, garnering well-deserved recognition and appreciation from cricket followers.

“The people who used to like the Indian cricket team for their batting have now started cheering for us. There is no greater happiness than this.

“People talk about the performance of the bowlers during the World Cup, but, if you have to look at the overall picture, you have to go back to 2013 and 2014. That is where the journey started,” Shami said to News18.

“If we look at the facts now, we only had three fast bowlers performing in the World Cup this time, which makes us believe that we have set the benchmark for future bowlers,” Mohammed Shami concluded.
