MS Dhoni’s future in cricket has become one of the most divisive topics lately. While the speculations on his retirement are at its peak, on the other hand, the former Indian skipper is maintaining his silence over this topic.

Dhoni played his last international match against New Zealand in the semi-final of the World Cup. As soon as the world cup was over, he took a sabbatical from the game and kept on extending it, which added more fuel to the fire.

Every time the selectors announce the playing squad of limited-overs, people start trending rumors about MS Dhoni’s retirement. Last night, MS Dhoni was once again trending on the micro-blogging site, Twitter with the hashtag #DhoniRetires.

The hashtag was good enough to give a heart-attack to any true MS Dhoni fan, however, the good thing was it was just a rumor. But social media was flooded with reactions from fans and critics both. While the critics and cricket pundits enjoyed the trend, on the other hand, fans slammed the critics in the best way possible.

Here, check out some of the reactions from fans on #DhoniRetires:

Don’t fuck around people. He is here, he is still here. Pls give this legend the time and the space he deserves. He is for God sake, not retiring. He is still my captain and he will be my captain forever. #DhoniRetires

However, the most sensible tweet came from a twitter user with username Madhav Sharma, who gave a solid reply to Dhoni’s critics. Calling him ‘the most selfless cricketer ever’, Madhav Sharma wrote:

“India is obsessed with MS Dhoni’s retirement. Don’t you worry, speculators, he will retire like a boss, when he wants to.

He is the most selfless cricketer, EVER.

Please stop this #DhoniRetires thing & wait for official announcement, which can come today, tomorrow or in 2023 ?”
