Mahendra Singh Dhoni is hailed as one of the most successful captains in Indian cricket history, having led the Indian cricket team to the number 1 position under his captaincy by winning all the prestigious ICC trophies. All thanks to his achievements – both as a cricketer and as a captain – MS has etched his name in the history books as one of India’s finest cricketers of all time. He is a bona fide legend of the game and has been an inspiration to many young aspiring cricketers around the world. But who was his cricketing idol while growing up?

Well, on Thursday (October 13th), MS Dhoni revealed that Sachin Tendulkar was his role model while he grew up dreaming of becoming a cricketer. While addressing a crowd at an event in Bangalore,  where he inaugurated the Chennai Super Kings- funded MS Dhoni Global School in Hosur, the former captain was asked about his cricketing idol while growing up. Responding to the young girl’s question, MS revealed how he always wanted to play like Sachin. He revealed:

“Well, as a cricket role model, it is always Sachin Tendulkar. I was exactly like you guys, I used to watch Sachin Tendulkar play and always thought, ‘I want to play like him.’ Later on, I realised, I can’t play like him but inside in my heart, I always wanted to play like him,”

Following this, the same girl asked MS Dhoni about what his favorite subject in school was. Responding to this, the former captain gave a witty answer. He said:  “Does sport qualify as a subject?”, he said to which the audience burst out in laughter.

The video of the same has been going viral on the internet. Watch the video, here:
